Alexandria The Great!

Beauty, Brains, Brawns, Courage, Guts, Grace, Passion, Poise, Power, Persistence, Perseverance, Political Star are just a few words that describe Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14). Alexandria was born in the Bronx to two working-class parents. Her father was a small business owner from the South Bronx. Her mother was born in Puerto Rico, growing up around a large family near Arecibo. She grew up in a working-class household where her mother cleaned homes and everyone pitched in on the family business.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez earned a degree in economics and international relations from Boston University but worked as a waitress and bartender after graduating in 2011 to supplement her mother’s income as a house cleaner and bus driver, according to The Intercept. Her father, a small-business owner, had died three years earlier of cancer; after his death, her family fought foreclosure and her mother and grandmother eventually moved to Florida. In a multiracial, multiethnic district with a large immigrant population, she made the fight against Trump-administration policies central to her campaigning, which highlighted a call for the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE). Ocasio-Cortez championed a single-payer, Medicare-for-All health-care system, declared that housing is a right, and called for sweeping criminal-justice reform. And she identified as a proud member of Democratic Socialists of America.

“Women like me aren’t supposed to run for office,” says Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, but yet she did it successfully in an extraordinary upsetting defeat of Rep. Joseph Crowley to become the Democratic candidate for New York’s Congressional race. If she goes on to win in November's election she will be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.
